CoF Ministry Articulation Profile

(Vacancy Reference #875794346)

Growing in Faith (Discipleship) Priority: 5

Description of Current Ministry (6-8 sentences):

In keeping with our Welsh heritage, we value strong preaching and teaching that is scriptural, relevant and heart-felt. We believe that through the integrity of our preachers and teachers, people’s faith is nurtured and grown.

We have a specific goal as follows:

We have few children at the church and our neighbourhood is getting younger. We would love to find ways of attracting children from our Welsh families, and from the neighbourhood, by offering them programs and worship that can inspire and nurture faith.
Justice, Outreach & Sharing the Good News (Justice and Outreach) Priority: 8

Description of Current Ministry (6-8 sentences):

The congregation supports a local food bank through donations of food and money. Members volunteer as a group at the Scott Mission periodically.

We have a specific goal as follows:

Over the next 2 years we plan to explore and develop an outreach ministry. We want to be a place that makes a difference in people’s lives
Leadership Priority: 1

Description of Current Ministry (6-8 sentences):

We believe that this is a critical time in the life of our congregation. We are an aging group who needs to make one more attempt to revitalize our ministry.. Priorities for leadership are: • Developing healthy and clear communications • Planning program and worship that is well organized and well delivered • Building and rebuilding relationships with the larger Welsh community in the GTA • Articulating and sharing how our Welsh tradition could enrich non-Welsh people’s lives. We are currently seeking a minister who will take initiative and work with the church’s leadership to explore what is possible for the future of Dewi Sant. While our Welsh culture and language is highly valued by the congregation, we are looking for leadership who can share this value but doesn’t necessarily need to be or speak Welsh themselves. Our leaders are ready and willing to actively partner with the minister in this important work.

We have a specific goal as follows:

We need to develop a new vision and plan for ministry and mission that can be lived at Dewi Sant. We need to seek a vision which is inspirational, builds relationships, invites new leadership, and is achievable by our congregation.
Wider Relationships (Ministry Partnerships) Priority: 7

Description of Current Ministry (6-8 sentences):

Members of the congregation participate in annual regional and National Welsh festivals. These include education, culture, and worship for the Welsh diaspora. We participate in the World Day of Prayer with our neighbouring churches.

We have a specific goal as follows:

We plan to get to know the other churches and ministers in our neighbourhood ecumenically. We believe there are opportunities to build new relationships, share ideas and activities, and to learn more about what each church is doing.
Pastoral/Spiritual Care Priority: 3

Description of Current Ministry (6-8 sentences):

Pastoral care is a high priority for our congregation. We are not a parish church. People come from all over the GTA. Keeping in touch and ensuring that relationships are sustained and built is a fundamental part of our congregational life. Pastoral visits are an expectation of our minister and we support this work through communicating the needs to the minister.

We have no specific goal.
Belonging, Extravagant Welcome, Wellness (Spirituality/Self-Care) Priority: 4

Description of Current Ministry (6-8 sentences):

We believe our Welsh culture has a lot to offer people. This is an ancient and present culture with strong traditions of: • Beautiful music and singing • Oratory: speaking, teaching, story-telling and poetry • Food and celebrations • Strong mutual support Also, since we come from a variety of denominations, we are able to welcome people who have a variety of church experiences and backgrounds. We love to connect with the larger Welsh community on special occasions and at special services.

We have a specific goal as follows:

• To reconnect with members of the Welsh community in the GTA – members and adherents of Dewi Sant who have withdrawn from participation, or who only come on special occasions. • To explore reconnections and ways to develop stronger community ties. • To explore the possibility of holding more social events through the week (e.g. Lunch Bunch) some of which could be outside of Dewi Sant, since our congregation does not live locally.
Stewardship Priority: 6

Description of Current Ministry (6-8 sentences):

The congregation has a history of taking responsibility for the financial stewardship of the church.

We have a specific goal as follows:

• To develop a plan and program for the stewardship of our finances and property looking into the next 5 years. • To build a strong volunteer team to lead this initiative. This is especially important since the congregation is drawn from a large region, and few live locally.
Worship Priority: 2

Description of Current Ministry (6-8 sentences):

We look to worship as a time of inspiration. At their best, prayers and sermons are from the heart, rooted in scripture and relevant to our lives. We expect worship to be well planned and well delivered. Music, especially congregational singing, is an integral part of our worship experience. It is common to have some Welsh spoken or sung in the services. There is a worship service conducted in the Welsh language that happens about 8 times a year on Sunday evenings. It’s planned by a lay leadership team. Sermons, spoken in Welsh, are delivered electronically. The service is open to people who would like to learn about the Welsh language. We love special services that draw members of the Welsh community to the celebration.

We have a specific goal as follows:

• To grow our sense of joy, happiness, and belonging. • To develop a worship team that helps plan and deliver inspiring, relevant worship. • We are curious about how else we might offer different types of worship and Bible Studies that could happen even though we live far apart from each other.
