Leadership Priority: 1

Description of Current Ministry (6-8 sentences):

Our primary goal is to call a new minister who will work with us, leading and inspiring all to live out the goals and ministries in this document. We seek a minister who will help us grow in Christian faith by inspiring us with sermons that relate scripture to everyday life, who will engage in a dynamic team relationship with staff and lay leaders, and who will support our growing interest in the arts as a vehicle for spiritual development. Music is a central element in our practice of faith at KRUC. Our Music Director and Choir are truly extraordinary, and we are blessed with the musical talent and participation in worship services of a number of members of our congregation. We look to our minister to continue to work closely with the Music Director to ensure a continued emphasis on the role of music in worship, and in community outreach. The minister is supported by an active lay leadership team. We seek a minister with strong personal leadership skills, and one who will also actively encourage an invitational, multidimensional, broadband approach to leadership by embracing and acting out a belief that we all have spiritual gifts to share. We embrace diversity and innovation, and encourage and support those who want to share their talents, time and energy within a culture of cooperation, teaching, learning and succession planning. We look to the minister to bring people together and be a bridge builder. The minister must be someone who deals skillfully with conflict, who can build trust and has a sense of humour. Our new minister will play a critical leadership role in modelling our commitment to living out the KRUC Vision and Mission statements, in supporting the work of the SpaceLift initiative and in facilitating the efforts of the SpaceLift Steering Committee to move forward with the implementation of the four recommendations.

We view people, time, talents and finance as the primary components of stewardship. We encourage everyone to share their gifts in whatever way they are able, in celebration of God’s presence in our lives, and to live out their faith by loving and serving others within the congregation and in the community. We seek a minister who is gifted at discerning the gifts of others, and who will work in close partnership with the Stewardship and Nominations Committees to continue to educate the congregation about the importance of Stewardship, and to gently encourage the participation of people with untapped gifts who may be shy to come forward. We feel it is important to keep discussions about Stewardship always on the table, to be open, transparent and to communicate regularly about the challenges and opportunities before us. We continue to develop a planning and management system for our finances and property to address and prepare for current and future needs and opportunities. The Building Audit and SpaceLift projects will be priorities for grant applications and fund-raising activities over the next several years. We look to our new minister to support and work with these teams as they develop action plans to carry out work in these areas.
